Casting has been unveiled for the world premiere of new spoof musical Friendsical which will embark on a tour next month which will include over four weeks at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Created by writer and director Miranda Larson, and based on her long-time affection for hit Warner Bros Entertainment television series Friends, Friendsical will open at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham on 15 July 2019.
Jamie Lee-Morgan (Madagascar The Musical UK and Ireland tour) will play Ross alongside Charlotte Elisabeth Yorke (Aladdin, Victoria Theatre, Halifax) as Rachel, Sarah Goggin (Sister Act, UK tour and Kilworth House) as Monica, Ally Retberg (Fame, Italian tour) as Phoebe, Thomas Mitchell (The Buddy Holly Story, UK tour) as Chandler, and Jordan Fox (Kinky Boots, Adelphi Theatre) as Joey. They will be joined by Duncan Burt (The Mob Wife: A Mafia Comedy, The Cockpit) and Rebecca Withers (Peter Pan and the Loose Boys, Guildford Fringe Company).
Larsson heads a creative team that includes design by Anthony Lamble, lighting by Dom Jeffrey, sound by Julian Butler, musical composition by Barrie Bignold, choreography by Darren Carnall and associate choreography by Michael Vinsen.
Following its five-day run in Cheltenham, the show will head for Darlington Hippodrome (22-27 July) before playing a full run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 1-25 August as part of the Assembly Festival programme in the Music Hall of The Assembly Rooms.
The tour will then resume, with the production visiting Derry’s Millennium Forum (26-31 August), Northern Stage, Newcastle (2-7 September), Kingston upon Thames’ Rose Theatre (9-14 September), the Festival Theatre, Malvern (16-21 September), Blackpool Grand Theatre (23-28 September), Chelmsford Civic Theatre (14-19 October), the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton (21-26 October) and Croydon’s Ashcroft Theatre (28 October-2 November).
Currently developing a new stage version of Washington Irving’s creepy classic Sleepy Hollow, Larson’s recent credits include the adaptation of Tom Fletcher’s Christmasaurus for the Hammersmith Apollo and the writing and direction of Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright’s The Night Pirates at the Rose Theatre, Kingston and on UK tour. A long-time fan of Friends, Larson’s first commissioned play in 2004, The Box Upstairs, was also inspired by the hit show.
Featuring original songs including ‘(He’s Her) Lobster!’ and ‘Richard’s Moustache’, Friendsical is produced by Birdbrooke Entertainment Ltd.
