Former Coronation Street regular Peters (Wonderland, Oh, What a Lovely War! UK tours) will play Josh’s mother, Mrs Baskin, with former pop star turned musical theatre favourite Walsh (Shrek The Musical, Elf The Musical, West End) co-starring as Susan Lawrence, the high-flying executive who is charmed by the 30-year-old man with the childlike spirit. Stage and screen star Kelly (Spamalot, Legally Blonde national tours) will play the pivotal role of toy company boss George MacMillan.
Directed and choreographed by Morgan Young, the production’s creative team includes: associate choreographer Helen Rymer; musical supervisor Stuart Morley; set and costume designer Simon Higlett; lighting designer Tim Lutkin; video designer Ian Galloway; and sound designers Terry Jardine and Avgoustos Psillas.
Featuring songs by David Shire and Richard Maltby, with a book by John Weidman, the production will play the Dominion from 6 September until 2 November. The season will also include a Gala Night in aid of the charity Make-A-Wish on Tuesday 17 September.
The much-loved 1988 Penny Marshall-directed 20th Century Fox film which was written by Gary Ross and Ann Spielberg, earned its star Tom Hanks his first Oscar nomination.
Big The Musical premiered on Broadway in 1996 and was nominated for five Tony Awards despite playing only 196 performances. Two years later a revised version toured the US.
