Clare Burt will join the previously announced Kelsey Grammer in the London premiere production of John August and Andrew Lippa’s quirky romance Big Fish The Musical.
Directed by Nigel Harman, the production – which will mark Frasier favourite Grammer’s London stage debut – will play The Other Palace from 1 November until 31 December with a press night on Tuesday 7 November and a gala night on Wednesday 8 November.
The winner of the UK Theatre Award for Best Performance in a Musical for her performance in Flowers For Mrs Harris, Burt’s credits include creating the role of Jan in the original National Theatre production of the award-winning musical London Road.
Best known for his multi award-winning small screen comic creation Dr Frasier Crane, Grammer made his Broadway musical debut in 2010 playing George in La Cage Aux Folles. He also originated the roles of Charles Frohman and Captain Hook in the Broadway premiere of the musical Finding Neverland.
The cast is completed by Matt Seadon-Young (Les Misérables, Beautiful), Frances McNamee (Little Shop of Horrors), Forbes Masson (Travesties, Dr. Faustus), Jamie Muscato (Lazarus, Bend it Like Beckham), Laura Baldwin (Shrek, Alice in Wonderland), Landi Oshinowo (Shrek, Sister Act), Dean Nolan (Fiddler On the Roof) and George Ure (Sweeney Todd, Wicked).
They are joined by Sophie Linder-Lee (The Rocky Horror Show, Wicked), Gemma McMeel (Titanic, Candide), Tanisha Spring (Beautiful, Thriller Live) and Jonathan Stewart (Guys and Dolls).
A labour of love for Harman, who is also directing the upcoming second tour of Shrek, the actor turned director met August and Lippa last year and discovered a shared vision for the new production.
“When I first encountered the piece, I was struck by its depth of humanity and its zest for life. A story that celebrates life in all of its wonders and despairs. A simple tale told in the most extraordinary way. It has been wonderful to revisit the music, book and lyrics with John and Andrew,” he said.
Based on the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace and the Columbia Pictures film screenplay by August, Big Fish The Musical debuted on Broadway in 2013.
The musical will be presented at The Other Palace by Big Fish Productions, Selladoor Worldwide and Baiyue Culture Creative with associate producers Dominic May and Underbelly Productions.
