Acclaimed Australian musical theatre star Anna O’Byrne will return to the London stage in November to star in the first revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony and Olivier-nominated musical The Woman in White.
The award-winning actress who took on the leading role in the hugely successful Australian premiere of Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies before making her West End debut in his Phantom of the Opera will take on the central role of Laura in the gothic romance based on Wilkie Collins’ Victorian thriller.
Beginning previews on 20 November, the production at London’s Charing Cross Theatre, will run for 12 weeks until 10 February 2018. The press night will be on Monday 4 December.
Directed by the venue’s artistic director Thom Southerland, the production will also feature Chris Peluso, who previously appeared in the theatre’s European premiere production of Death Takes a Holiday and recently starred opposite Sheridan Smith in the touring production of Funny Girl.
The cast will also include: Carolyn Maitland (Ghost, Cabaret), Ashley Stillburn (Death Takes a Holiday, The Phantom of the Opera), Greg Castiglioni (Titanic, Fiddler On the Roof), and recent Guildford School of Acting graduate Sophie Reeves (Les Misérables).
Commenting on her casting, O’Byrne who won the 2017 Helpmann Award for Best Actress for her performance in the acclaimed 60th anniversary production of My Fair Lady at the Sydney Opera House which was directed by Julie Andrews, said: “I’m thrilled to be playing Laura in this re-imagined version of The Woman in White. Andrew’s score is just gorgeous and it’s very special to continue our association on this show. Andrew has been, and continues to be, a guiding force in my career.”
With music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by multi award-winner David Zippel, and a book by Charlotte Jones, the revival will feature choreography by Cressida Carré, scenic design by Morgan Large, costume design by Jonathan Lipman, lighting design by Rick Fisher and sound design by Andy Johnson. The music supervisor is Stephen Brooker with orchestrations by David Cullen and casting by David Grindrod Associates.
The Woman in White is produced by Patrick Gracey, Steven M. Levy and Vaughan Williams by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Limited.
