Andrew Lloyd Webber is bringing music to the ears of theatre-lovers with a live concert version of his new Symphonic Suites album at the Royal Festival Hall in September followed by UK tour dates in 2022.
Presented by The Really Useful Group, Kennedy Street and Kilimanjaro, Andrew Lloyd Webber – Symphonic Suites Live In Concert will play the prestigious London venue on 8 September 2021.
The London concert will accompany the 3 September release of the Decca Records’ album, Andrew Lloyd Webber: Symphonic Suites, the eagerly-anticipated recording of three newly-orchestrated suites featuring the music from much-loved musicals Evita, Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard.
As previously announced the album which will also be available on vinyl from 29 October contains the first live performance at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane following a two-year £60 million renovation project.
Conducted by Lloyd Webber’s long-time collaborator Simon Lee, the recording reunited some of the world’s most accomplished musicians after a year of separation.
Following the Royal Festival Hall performance by the 81-piece Andrew Lloyd Webber Orchestra, Andrew Lloyd Webber – Symphonic Suites Live In Concert will tour the UK during 2022. Accompanied by local orchestras, the dates will include: Manchester Bridgewater Hall (with the Halle Orchestra) on 17 September; Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra) on 18 September; Cardiff St David’s Hall (with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales) on 24 September; Nottingham Royal Concert Hall (with the Halle Orchestra) on 30 September; and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) on 1 October.
Announcing the album, Lloyd Webber said: “For over a year now, we have lived without the joy of live music. As we fight to bring performers back to work and theatres back to life, I hope that this album might now take on a new meaning: the music which represents the triumphant and hopeful return of live music, theatre and entertainment across the world. It is wonderful and very moving for me to see brilliant musicians back where they belong.”
Recorded in line with the Government’s current Covid-19 safety protocols, the footage featuring the recording of the album offers the first glimpse of the historic building which has been refurbished and re-imagined to offer all-day hospitality and entertainment as well as world class theatre formats.
‘The Lane’ will be the London home for the eagerly-anticipated West End debut of Tony-nominated musical Frozen which is due to begin preview performances from 27 August.
