West End and Broadway actor Cory English will step into the role of Doctor Emmett Brown in the multi-award-winning West End production of Back To The Future The Musical later this month.
Best known for playing Max Bialystock in the West End and UK touring productions of The Producers, English (Sleepless, Troubadour Theatre Wembley Park, She Loves Me, Menier Chocolate Factory) will take over from his former Young Frankenstein co-star (Broadway/US tour), Tony Award-winning actor Roger Bart for six weeks from 23 November 2022 until 3 January 2023.
Bart will return to the production on 5 January 2023 and will remain in the role in London until 20 March 2023 before heading for New York to lead the cast of the Broadway premiere production. As previously announced, performances at the Winter Garden Theatre are due to begin on Broadway on 30 June 2023 ahead of an official opening night on 3 August 2023.
Based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, the brainchild of producer Colin Ingram (Ghost – The Musical) and the creators of the much-loved time-travelling film series, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, the West End production is now booking up to 23 July 2023.
Back To The Future The Musical in the West End currently stars Bart alongside Ben Joyce as Marty McFly with Amber Davies as Lorraine Baines, Oliver Nicholas as George McFly, Jordan Benjamin as Goldie Wilson, Harry Jobson as Biff Tannen, Sophie Naglik as Jennifer Parker, Gary Trainor as Strickland, Will Haswell as alternate Marty McFly and Dave McFly, and Emma Lloyd as Linda McFly.
The cast also includes Amy Barker, Simeon Beckett, Sia Dauda, Tyler Davis, Glen Facey, Dylan Gordon-Jones, Adam Margilewski, Cameron McAllister, Alessia McDermott, Bryan Mottram, Laura Mullowney, Anna Murray, Jon Reynolds, , Melissa Rose, Georgia Tapp, Justin Thomas, Charley Warburton and Tavio Wright.
The critically acclaimed Olivier, WhatsOnStage and Broadway World Award-winning Best New Musical had its opening night in London on 13 September 2021.
Featuring a book by Gale and new music and lyrics by the film’s Emmy and Grammy Award-winning composer Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard the stage musical also includes songs from the film including Huey Lewis and the News’ Oscar-nominated ‘The Power of Love’.
Tony Award-winning director John Rando (Urinetown, On The Town) heads a creative team that includes the multi-Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team of Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Hugh Vansone (lighting), Gareth Owen (sound) and Finn Ross (video). Choreography is by Chris Bailey, with illusions by Chris Fisher, musical supervision and vocal arrangements by Nick Finlow, orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook and dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod Associates.
The musical premiered in Manchester in early 2020 at the start of what was to have been a limited 12-week season before heading for London. A box office record breaker at the Adelphi, the Manchester and London productions have been seen by half a million people to date.
