Nominations will open on 1 November 2018 for the 19th WhatsOnStage Awards which will be held at the Prince of Wales Theatre on Sunday 3 March 2019.
The only major theatre awards to be voted for entirely by the theatregoing public, the public will be able to nominate their favourites for the 23 awards until 30 November. Voting will re-open on 5 December after the shortlists are announced and theatregoers will have until 30 January 2019 to cast their votes. Two new categories are Best Show Poster and Best Original Cast Recording.
42nd Street and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie were the biggest musical theatre winners at this year’s ceremony with 42nd Street collecting four awards and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie winning three.
All professional productions launched between December 2017 and November this year are eligible in 18 of the 23 categories. The exceptions are: Best West End Show which applies to longer-running London productions; and, while non-West End and regional productions are eligible for nomination across all fields, there are also two categories specifically for Best Off-West End Production and Best Regional Production.
Best Show Poster applies to any professional production that began before November 2017 and the award will recognise the original artwork, whilst any professional production, worldwide, which released an original cast recording before November 2017 is eligible for Best Original Cast Recording.
