West End star Linzi Hateley will revisit Carrie, the musical which launched her career, as part of an extended Halloween themed episode in the new pay-to-stream musical theatre flavoured web series, The Theatre Channel.
The Mamma Mia! actress who starred in the title role in the RSC’s musical version of Stephen King’s classic novel in Stratford and on Broadway when she was still a teenager, will perform ‘When There’s No One’ – a song performed by Carrie’s mother in the musical.
The episode will also feature: Bradley Jaden (Les Misérables, Wicked) and Sophie Isaacs (Six The Musical, Heathers: The Musical) singing ‘Life After Life’ from Dracula, The Musical (by Frank Wildhorn, Don Black and Christopher Hampton); and Josh Piterman (The Phantom of the Opera, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) performing ‘The Confrontation’ from Jekyll & Hyde (also by Wildhorn with Leslie Bricusse and Steve Cuden). Pretty Woman star Aimie Atkinson will complete the line-up with a song which is to be announced at a later date.
Commenting on the episode, producer Adam Blanshay said: “Halloween is beloved by children of all ages, and what better way to mark the holiday than to celebrate with a special Halloween-themed episode! There are many spooks and surprises in store.
“We hope the episode combines the right amount of camp fancy-dress fun with stirring epic performances. Moreover, may theatre fans rejoice as Linzi Hateley groundbreakingly revisits her roots with a stirring performance from Carrie – for the first time ever stepping into the shoes of Margaret White.”
Presented by Adam Blanshay Productions and The Theatre Café and featuring a mix of West End stars and leading creatives, The Theatre Channel launched via a new platform hosted on The Theatre Café’s website on 2 October. Each episode will also feature The Theatre Channel’s Café Four made up of Alyn Hawke (Oklahoma!, Follies), Emily Langham (The Boy Friend, Oklahoma!), Sadie-Jean Shirley (City of Angels, Ghost: The Musical) and Alex Woodward (Mamma Mia! Hairspray) in a variety of supporting roles.
Each episode costs £12 and once purchased audiences will be available to view the episode unlimited times. Four new episodes are planned for release this year with the Halloween episode now available to buy ahead of its release on 30 October.
The opening episode which featured performances from Tarinn Callender, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Henry, Lucie Jones, Oliver Ormson, Jenna Russell and Jodie Steele is available to purchase and download via www.thetheatrecafe.co.uk/channel.
The Theatre Channel has direction and choreography by Bill Deamer, musical supervision by Michael England, set and costume design by Gregor Donnelly, lighting design by Jack Weir, sound design by Keegan Curran, videography by Ben Hewis and hair and make-up by Diana Hudson.
