Simon Lipkin and Georgina Castle will lead the cast of festive family favourite Elf: The Musical when it returns to London in a new production at the Dominion Theatre, playing a strictly limited eight-week season this Christmas.
Known for his scene-stealing performance as Mr Poppy in another seasonal classic Nativity! The Musical in London and on tour, Lipkin (The Wind in the Willows, London Palladium, Spamalot, original UK tour) will take on the title role of Buddy the Elf opposite Castle (Cinderella, Gillian Lynne Theatre, 9 to 5: The Musical, Savoy Theatre/UK and Ireland tour) as Jovie.
Directed by Philip Wm. McKinley with original set and costume design by Tim Goodchild, the new production will begin preview performances on 14 November 2022 ahead of an opening night on 24 November. The eight-week season will run until 7 January 2023.
The creative team for the production also includes choreographer Liam Steel, lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe with sound by Gareth Owen and casting by Grindod Burton Casting. Elf: The Musical is produced by Temple Live Entertainment. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
Based on the instant Christmas classic film which starred Will Ferrell, the feel-good family favourite features a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone), with songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer).
The musical debuted on Broadway in 2010 and played a second Christmas season on Broadway two years later. Buddy first took up a festive residence at the Dominion Theatre in 2014 with Ben Forster starring as Buddy opposite Kimberley Walsh as Jovie. Forster returned as Buddy for the 2017 tour.
