Off-Broadway hit Dog Man: The Musical will receive its European premiere at London’s Southbank Centre next summer.
Presented by Roast Productions by special arrangement with TWTheatricals, the family-friendly musical based on Dav Pilkey’s best-selling book series will play the Southbank Centre from 30 July to 16 August 2026.
The musical adventure has a book and lyrics by double Emmy Award-winner Kevin Del Aguila, music by Brad Alexander and is directed and choreographed by Jen Wineman.
Originally produced by TheaterWorksUSA, Dog Man: The Musical premiered Off-Broadway in June 2019 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, extending due to popular demand. The production returned to New York at New World Stages in March 2023.
The European premiere of Dog Man: The Musical will feature the original creative team including scenic designer Timothy R. Mackabee, costume designer Heidi Leigh Hanson, lighting designer David Lander and sound designer Emma Wilk, with orchestrations by Lloyd Kikoler. Paul Herbert will join the team for the European premiere as musical director.
Since it launched to critical acclaim in 2016, Pilkey’s international graphic novel series about the crime-fighting part dog/part policeman Dog Man has sold millions of copies worldwide and have been translated into many different languages.
Commenting on the musical version of his work, Pilkey said: “Dog Man: The Musical surpassed my highest expectations. The performances were beyond brilliant, capturing the heart of every single audience member and leaving everyone, especially me, in complete awe. It is the perfect mash-up of memorable music, humour and love. I’m so thrilled to hear that the musical will be premiering in London next year. Kids and families are in for a treat!”
