Fame 30th to mark launch of new season of The Shows Must Go On

Universal’s popular The Shows Must Go On YouTube channel will return to streaming full shows on 25 September 2020 with the Fame The Musical – 30th Anniversary Tour.

Directed and choreographed by Nick Winston, the 2018 production stars pop star turned actress Mica Paris as Miss Sherman with Keith Jack (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, UK tour) as classical actor Nick Piazza and Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter who made her stage debut as ballet dancer Iris Kelly.

Based on Alan Parker’s ground-breaking 1980 movie, the recording of the hit production which launched in Manchester in 2018 and played dates across the UK until the summer of 2019 will be available for 48 hours free of charge from Friday at 7pm BST.

Fame The Musical – 30th Anniversary Tour will launch the new season The Greats On Tour which will also include Michael Ball: Past & Present Tour-Live, Alfie Boe Live – The Bring Him Home Tour and Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of the Worlds.

Available to stream from 7pm on 2 October for 48 hours, Michael Ball: Past & Present Tour-Live is a recording of the much-loved star’s 2009 show celebrating 25 years of music filmed at the Royal Albert Hall.

A week later it will be Ball’s regular touring partner Alfie Boe’s turn in the spotlight with the 48-hour streaming of Alfie Boe Live – The Bring Him Home Tour, available from 7pm on 9 October for 48 hours. Also filmed at the Royal Albert Hall, the performance also features special guests Matt Lucas, Melanie C and Tom Fletcher.

The award-winning production of Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of the Worlds filmed live at London’s O2 Arena in 2012 with 23 cameras recording spectacular footage will be available for 48 hours from 16 October at 7pm. The production features Liam Neeson seen as a state-of-the art 3D hologram alongside on-stage stars including Jason Donovan, Ricky Wilson, Marti Pellow, Will Stapleton and Kerry Ellis. Due to the pandemic the 2021 arena tour of the musical has now been postponed until March 2022.

Aimed at giving locked-down theatre fans access to a West End or Broadway experience in their own homes, the channel was launched by Universal Pictures Home Video Entertainment’s Content Group in April.

The scheme which involved the release of a new show online every week from 7 pm British Standard Time for a limited 48-hour period was paused in early July following a second streaming of the launch show, the 2000 adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

With no charge or sign-up fee payable, theatre fans who are able have been asked to make a donation to charitable organisations offering help and support to people in the industry facing hardship as the theatre closedown continues. The charities listed on The Shows Must Go On channel include Acting For Others, Broadway Cares and the Actors Benevolent Fund.
