Fans of new musical The Prince Of Egypt feature in a new music video for the show’s most famous song ‘When You Believe’.
The video has been created following an appeal to fans of the show to upload their own video performance of the Oscar-winning song originally performed by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
A musical illustration of the support for the show comes as tickets have gone on sale for the proposed West End return of the show from 2 November 2020 to 4 September 2021 (subject to Government advice).
Produced by DreamWorks Theatricals (a division of Universal Theatrical Group), Michael McCabe and Neil Laidlaw, the new stage musical based on the much-loved animated film opened at London’s Dominion Theatre in February.
With a book by Phillip LaZebnik (Disney’s Mulan and Pocahontas), the musical features the new songs by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) together with the five he contributed to the DreamWorks film including ‘When You Believe’ along with ‘Deliver Us’, ‘All I Ever Wanted’ and ‘Through Heaven’s Eyes’.
Directed by Scott Schwartz (Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame) with choreography by Sean Cheesman (So You Think You Can Dance), the cast includes: Luke Brady (Sweeney Todd, Chichester Festival Theatre, West End, St George and the Dragon, Shakespeare’s Globe, National Theatre) as Moses opposite Rocky Horror Show favourite Liam Tamne (The Light in the Piazza, South Bank Centre, Working, Southwark Playhouse) as Ramses. Hamilton’s Christine Allado (In The Heights, King’s Cross Theatre, Sweet Charity, Manchester Royal Exchange) plays Moses’ wife, Tzipporah, with Alexia Khadime (The Lion King, The Book of Mormon, West End) as Moses’ sister Miriam.
Ghostlight Records released the original cast recording of the new musical The Prince Of Egypt on digital and streaming formats in April. The show’s musical supervisor Dominick Amendum produced the album alongside Schwartz with Kurt Deutsch serving as executive producer. A physical CD of the album will be available later in the year.
Based on the hit film which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, the stage version originally premiered at TheatreWorks in Silicon Valley in the US in 2017 and has been seen at Denmark’s Fredericia Teater. The revised version of the show which includes new material was showcased at a private reading in London in early 2019.
