Clarke Peters’ new production of his award-winning Five Guys Named Moe has extended its run at the new pop-up theatre in London’s Marble Arch until Saturday 17 February 2018 due to popular demand.
Directed by Peters and featuring the hits of jazz legend Louis Jordan, Underbelly Productions’ revival of the hit show is currently previewing ahead of its opening night next week (14 September).
Designed specifically for the production, the Marble Arch Theatre transports the audience back in time to the jazz bars of 1940s New Orleans. A circular auditorium ensures that the action truly takes place in the round, while the theatre’s 1940s era foyer cocktail bar offers pre-and post-performance drinks.
The production boasts musical staging and choreography by Andrew Wright, taking inspiration from Charles Augins’ original choreography. Set and costume design is by takis, with lighting design by Philip Gladwell and sound design by Ben Harrison.
First seen at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in 1990, Five Guys Named Moe soon transferred to the West End where it played for four years. In 1992 the show made its Broadway debut.
Announcing the extended run, Underbelly directors Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam said: “There really ain’t no party like a Five Guys party and that’s exactly what audiences have been finding out – they’ve been on their feet every night during the previews of Five Guys Named Moe.
“Everyone loves the party atmosphere in the brand new Marble Arch Theatre – our incredible purpose-built New Orleans style venue. Clarke Peters has brought his own show thrillingly to life in this brand new production and we couldn’t be more delighted to announce, after only eight performances, that we’re extending the run to 17 February 2018.”
The show’s associate producer Cameron Mackintosh said: “I’m so thrilled that the exhilarating new production of Five Guys is being enjoyed so much by a new young audience, as well as fans of the original, and that the run is extending into 2018 in this brilliant pop up New Orleans theatre – the joint is truly jumping thanks to these amazing Guys.”
