Janie Dee and Joanna Riding will star in a special outdoor version of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s evocative A Little Night Music in London.
The pair who previously appeared together in the National Theatre’s hit production of Follies will reunite for the socially distanced concert performance in Holland Park on 15 August 2020.
They will be joined by Sharif Afifi, Hiba Elchikhe, Danielle Fiamanya, Fra Fee, Hilary Harwood, Emma Kingston, Emma Harrold, Nadim Naaman, Laura Pitt-Pulford, Ella Tronson and Kayi Ushe.
Directed by Alastair Knights with musical direction by Alex Parker, the event which will take place in the stunning setting which is usually home to the annual Opera Holland Park summer festival will include an eight-piece chamber ensemble of musicians.
Featuring the orchestration by Jason Carr which was first heard in Trevor Nunn’s 2008 Menier Chocolate Factory revival production, the two-hour concert will be produced by Quick Fantastic and Dee in association with Opera Holland Park.
Only 200 seats will be available to ensure audience members are safely socially distanced within the outside space. The production will also adhere to social distancing measures to ensure the safety of actors, performers, creatives and staff. Tickets will go on sale at midday on 3 August 2020.
With music and lyrics by Sondheim, a book by Wheeler and original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, A Little Night Music debuted on Broadway in 1973. Directed by Harold Prince, the production starred Glynis Johns, Len Cariou and Hermione Gingold. The 1975 West End premiere production featured Jean Simmons and Joss Ackland with Gingold reprising her performance as Madame Armfeldt.
