Gareth Gates takes the lead role in the forthcoming tour of Footloose the Musical
TV and stage star Gareth Gates is the first key cast member to be confirmed for the new production of Footloose the Musical which will begin touring the UK in January next year.
Gates shot to fame in the original Pop Idol TV talent show before enjoying stage success in hit shows including Les Misérables, Legally Blonde and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He will take on the role of Willard in the production which will be directed by Racky Plews (recent projects include American Idiot).
The singer will open in the role when the tour begins in Bridlington on 29 January and remain with the show until 16 April when it finishes its run in Bournemouth. He will then return to the role when the tour reaches Aberdeen in June.
Footloose the Musical has music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and is adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. It is based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford.
Choreography for the tour will be by Matthew Cole, with design by Sara Perks and musical supervision by Mark Crossland. The show will be produced by David Hutchinson and Phillip Rowntree for Sell a Door Theatre Company and Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment.
