The eight-strong cast has been unveiled for the upcoming London premiere of Get Down Tonight, the KC and The Sunshine Band Musical.
Charting the early years of singer, songwriter, musician and producer Harry Wayne Casey (KC) and set in 1970s Miami, the musical is due to bring a dose of Florida sun into the Charing Cross Theatre from 19 September until 15 November.
Ross Harmon (Shucked, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) will play Harry Wayne Casey alongside Adam Taylor as Orly (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Playhouse Theatre). After appearing in the musical’s initial Edinburgh Festival Fringe run, Paige Fenlon (Pretty Woman, Piccadilly Theatre) and Annabelle Terry (Scissorhandz, Southwark Playhouse Elephant) will return as Dee and Gina. Ensemble members will include Aaron Archer (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, UK and Ireland tour), Eve Drysdale (Fame the Musical, European tour), Rachael Kendall Brown (Pretty Woman, UK and Ireland tour) and Finley Oliver (professional debut).
Developed with Casey, the musical which has a book by JF Lawton (Pretty Woman) features over 20 of the triple Grammy Award-winning disco and funk group KC and The Sunshine Band’s greatest hits including ‘Give It Up’, ‘That’s The Way (I Like It)’ and ‘Get Down Tonight’.
First seen at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2024 under the title Who Do Ya Love?, the feel-good show has been re-titled and extended to 90 minutes for its London debut.
Commenting on the show, Casey said: “There’s something infectious about dance music and the way it allows people to escape from the world and find themselves at the same time. I’m excited to share this show we’ve created with audiences in London, from the generations who were there with me in the 70s, to younger ages who just know me from the hits on the radio, in the movies or on TV shows.
“Everyone can connect to the music. We just wanted to bring that nostalgia to the stage and I wanted to show people a little bit more about who I am. For me, this is about telling the story of what helped shape my dreams into reality. It is a sample of life and emotions among four good friends in the early 70s. After all these years, the music has allowed me to tell that story. Enjoy the music, the magic, the musical!”
The production is directed and choreographed by Lisa Stevens, with musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Mark Crossland. The creative team also includes set designer Bretta Gerecke, costume designer Tom Rogers (based on original designs), lighting designer Jai Morjaria, sound designer Chris Whybrow, assistant director and choreographer Sierra Brewerton and casting director Anne Vosser.
