Well, well, well, our Little Orphan Annie has all grown up – well almost. We soon establish that life has not turned out overly well for Annie but, along the way, she has grown up to be quite a gal. There are some things though that never change, the love she still has for her dog, Sandy – even though he decided an easy life was what he coveted and stayed in the lap of luxury with Daddy Warbucks. This almost destroyed Annie, she had lost her best pal, but she took it on the chin and, believe it or not, she spills the beans when we discover her admiration for Miss Hannigan. I mean who would ever have thought that was possible? But, as Annie tells us, at least Miss Hannigan was an honest liar…
Due to the demise of Daddy Warbucks, Annie is orphaned for the second time in her life and finds herself here in Edinburgh. She is on a mission to pursue new adventures, a celebrity lifestyle and, most importantly, her quest to find a new best friend. And for good measure, she wants to save the world from out-and-out capitalism.
Guess what? We, as her audience are asked to partake to help make this happen. Yeh!!
Katherine Bourne Taylor is a joy to behold, she’s a ball of energy and the audience warms to her instantly. Her comedic wacky, off-the-wall humour fits the show perfectly. Audience participation applies as and when required. Toma, from the front row, doesn’t have to be asked twice (his handling of the hairdryer was second to none) and his total commitment to helping make Annie’s podcast unforgettable does not go unrecognised and justifiably gets an enthusiastic round of applause from the audience. It’s done, Annie has her very own podcast to release to the world.
It’s a real hoot and we all leave the tiny theatre cheering Annie on her way, hoping against hope that she finds her new bestie and sets the world to right. We need more Annies in the world right now.
