Dujonna Gift and Sam Tutty will co-star in Kiln’s Theatre’s new production of 2018 Stiles + Drewe Mentorship award winners Jim Barne and Kit Buchan’s musical Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York).
Gift (Hamilton, Victoria Palace, Dear Evan Hansen, Noël Coward Theatre) will play Robin opposite Olivier Award-winner Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen, Noel Coward Theatre, Once On This Island, Southwark Playhouse) as Dougal in the production which will begin preview performances at the north London venue on 9 November 2023 ahead of the opening night on 16 November. The run will last until 23 December.
Originally titled The Season, the musical won the 2020 Stage Debut Best Composer/Lyricist award and played to critical acclaim at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate and Ipswich’s New Wolsey Theatre in late 2019
The director of the original production, Tim Jackson will direct and choreograph the re-worked and renamed musical. The creative team also includes designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer Tony Gayle, musical director Sean Green, orchestrator Lux Pyramid, casting director Julia Horan, voice and dialect coach Daniele Lydon, associate director Claira Vaughan and Kiln-Mackintosh resident assistant director Jessica Mensah.
The romantic comedy about Brit Dougal who journeys to New York for his estranged father’s second wedding, and New Yorker Robin, the bride’s sister, sent to the airport to meet the British visitor, earned its writers the prestigious Stiles + Drewe development award.
Songwriters for their pop band, I Said Yes, Barne and Buchan’s second musical Catastrophe Bay was performed at the Bristol Old Vic last year.
