Hit revival of Marry Me a Little to be streamed by the Barn Theatre

The Barn Theatre’s recent critically acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Marry Me a Little will be streamed digitally later this month.

Forced to end its run four days earlier than planned on 4 November 2020 due to the second lockdown, a recording filmed during the production’s final performances will be available for home viewing from 19-22 November.

Directed by Kirk Jameson, the production reunited the stars who previously appeared together in the 2019 London premiere of The Light in the Piazza, Rob Houchen (Les Misérables) and Celinde Schoenmaker (The Phantom of the Opera).

Produced by the Barn Theatre in association with Anthology Theatre, the production features musical staging by Sam Spencer-Lane, set and costume design by Gregor Donnelly, musical direction by Arlene McNaught, lighting design by Sam Rowcliffe-Tanner, sound design by Harry Smith and projection design by Benjamin Collins.

Tickets for the streamed production will cost £13.50 with options available to add a donation to the theatre which is a registered charity.

Conceived by Craig Lucas and Norman René to showcase songs from Sondheim’s best-loved musicals including Follies, Company and A Little Night Music, Marry Me a Little was first performed in the US in 1980.

Announcing the streaming of the production, the Barn Theatre’s CEO and artistic director Iwan Lewis said: “Marry Me a Little was a truly special production that sadly had to close early due to the latest lockdown. We were determined to find a way to ensure the production still got a proper end to its run and are thrilled that we are able to now stream this for anyone who wants to see this wonderful show, wherever they may be.

“We remain committed to opening our doors and welcoming back our audiences for live theatre. However, after the continued success of our digital co-production What a Carve Up! we cannot ignore the global demand for innovative digital theatrical content and so I look forward to announcing further digital plans in the coming weeks.”

Marry Me a Little will be the second production from Cirencester venue’s 2020 Theatre Recovery Season to be released online this autumn. It follows the digital world premiere of Henry Filloux-Bennett’s new adaptation of Jonathan Coe’s What A Carve Up! co-produced by Barn Theatre, Lawrence Batley Theatre and New Wolsey Theatre. Director Tamara Harvey’s takes charge of an all-star cast including Alfred Enoch, Fiona Button, Sharon D. Clarke, Rebecca Front, Stephen Fry, Derek Jacobi, Griff Rhys Jones and Tamzin Outhwaite.
