Cast and creatives from hit British musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will reunite online for the third instalment in the popular One Night Only series next month.
SimG Productions and Musical Theatre Radio’s third One Night Only event on YouTube on 4 September will follow on from June’s successful reunion of the team behind From Here To Eternity, and the upcoming celebration of the 1998 premiere production of Saturday Night Fever (20 August).
Hosted by director and producer Simon Greiff, the unique event series features live streamed discussion and Q&A sessions with the cast and creatives from major musicals.
With all profits going to Acting For Others, panel guests for the Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will include writers Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae, director Jonathan Butterell, set and costume designer Anna Fleischle, and lighting designer Lucy Carter. The evening will also feature two actors who have each starred as Jamie: John McCrea (original Sheffield and West End) and Noah Thomas (current West End). A third Jamie, Layton Williams (West End and tour) is now unable to appear, but Lucie Shorthouse, who played Pritti Pasha in the London production, will now join the line-up.
The Everybody’s Talking About Jamie evening will focus on the process of creating an original musical and bringing a new show to the London stage with cast members also offering an insight into what it is like to play the leading role of Jamie New. The audience will be encouraged to submit questions for the panel, and may even be invited onto the virtual stage to ask their question in person. The evening will also feature exclusive performances from Dan Gillespie Sells and will conclude with a post-show virtual stage door mix and mingle session.
Described as a ‘coming-of-age story with a twist’, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was written by singer songwriter Sells, the lead vocalist of rock band The Feeling and stage and screen writer MacRae. An instant hit with audiences and critics, the musical premiered in Sheffield in 2017 before transferring to London’s West End a few months later.
When lockdown hit the Apollo Victoria production had just welcomed new star cast members Rufus Hound and Katy Brand. The UK touring production featuring Layton Williams. Shane Richie, Shoba Gulati and George Sampson launched in Sheffield earlier this year and the movie version of the musical featuring Max Harwood in his professional debut as Jamie New, Richard E. Grant as Loco Chanelle and award-winning former Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire as Margaret New is now scheduled for release next year.
