Multi-award-winning Kinky Boots has become the latest West End favourite to announce it will close in early 2019.

Following on from the news that Dreamgirls would end its Savoy Theatre run on 12 January 2019, the producers of the hugely popular tale of Charlie, Lola, Lauren and co. have announced they will be hanging up their fabulous footwear for the final time at London’s Adelphi Theatre on the same date.

The announcement comes just days after a series of new cast members joined the hit show which had recently opened a new booking period taking the show up to Saturday 5 January 2019.

From Monday 4 June 2018 Oliver Thompsett stepped into the role of Charlie Price and Natalie McQueen took over as Lauren alongside Simon-Anthony Rhoden who proved an immediate hit with audiences last summer when he stepped into the role of Lola after acting as the understudy for the show’s original Lola, Matt Henry.

An instant favourite with theatregoers, the exuberant show’s impressive awards haul includes three Oliviers, six Tonys, the London Evening Standard BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical and the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical.

With a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), and songs by Grammy and Tony-winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, the production is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

News of the show’s imminent closure comes just a few months after the hit show celebrated welcoming over one million customers and played its 1,000th performance in the West End.

Due to celebrate its third birthday in the West End in September, the touring version of the show is will begin its extensive 2018/2019 UK tour at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate on 19 September 2018.
