Stage and screen favourite Lee Mead will celebrate his 40th birthday with a special concert at the London Palladium on 10 June 2021.
The actor who first shot to fame as the winner of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s television talent search for his new Joseph in 2007, will take the audience on a trip through his career in musical theatre for the concert which will offer a taste of the star’s 35-date UK tour this autumn.
With a stage career that also includes starring roles in Wicked, Legally Blonde and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Lee Mead Live At The London Palladium will feature the star accompanied by a 12-piece band including a brass section that regularly performs with Michael Bublé and Mark Ronson and a string quartet under the musical direction of keyboardist Adam Dennis.
Announcing the show, Mead said: “It will be an incredible moment to bring my own show to the London Palladium for the first time – it really is something I have dreamed of my whole life.
“After a year of lockdowns and turning 40 this summer, I thought what better way to celebrate. All performers have missed live theatre so much and it will be a fantastic moment for me.”
Along with some of Mead’s favourite musical theatre songs, the show will feature tracks from his five albums along with new material written by the star during lockdown.
The concert will include the live premiere of Mead’s forthcoming new single ‘Little Light’ written by Steve Balsamo. Known for playing the title role in the 1996 West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, Balsamo will make a guest appearance at the Palladium to perform a duet with Lee on ‘Snow Falling In June’ – a song co-written by Mead and Balsamo with the show’s MD Dennis.
Mead first appeared on the London Palladium stage in 2008 when the star performed ‘Some Of Us Belong to the Stars’ from the musical Billy Liar during a show celebrating the career of lyricist Don Black. In 2017 Mead returned to the venue to star as The Prince in Cinderella, marking the return of pantomime to the iconic venue in 30 years.
Postponed in 2020 due to Covid, Mead’s My Band And Me tour is due to open in Porthcawl on 3 September and run through to 31 October. Both the tour and the Palladium concert will be presented by Neil O’Brien Entertainment.
