Georgina Castle and Josh St Clair will take the lead in the world premiere in London of a new musical based on the hit Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy 50 First Dates.
Recently seen in the hit West End premiere run of Mean Girls, Castle (Dirty Dancing, Elf the Musical) will star as Lucy Whitmore, an artist with short-term memory loss, opposite St Clair (Ghost the Musical, UK tour, Frozen The Musical, Theatre Royal Drury Lane) as Henry Roth, the commitment-phobe who falls in love with her. The musical will make its debut at The Other Palace from 14 September to 16 November 2025.
Announcing the production and its stars, the driving force behind the musical and the production’s director, Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Some Like It Hot) said: “50 First Dates is one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time, and has also been one of my favourites ever since I first saw it. After watching it about 50 times as my ‘go to’ movie on airplane flights, I realised it would really sing well and could be very special, so I began to start the ball rolling to turn it into a new stage musical.
“I’m so excited to direct and choreograph the world premiere of this new, funny and romantic show. I’m also thrilled to reunite with Georgina Castle after her phenomenal turn as Regina George in my production of Mean Girls, and to collaborate for the first time with the immensely talented Josh St Clair. I can’t wait for London audiences to fall in love – again and again and again – when we open this September.”
Based upon the 2004 Columbia Pictures Motion Picture, 50 First Dates (screenplay by George Wing), 50 First Dates: The Musical has a book, music and lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen (The Other Josh Cohen ) with set and costume design by Fly Davis (Caroline Or Change), lighting design by Aideen Malone (Fiddler on the Roof ), video design by George Reeve (Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends), sound design by Adam Fisher (Sunset Boulevard), hair and make-up design by Cynthia De La Rosa (Barcelona)and orchestrations and arrangements by Matthew Jackson (Burlesque). The musical supervisor and musical director is Richard Beadle (Hamilton). The casting director is Natalie Gallacher for Natalie Gallacher and Pippa Ailion Casting.
50 First Dates: The Musical is produced by ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live and Gavin Kalin Productions.
The second of three movies featuring the much-loved on-screen partnership of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, 50 First Dates followed on from the pair’s first hit, 1998 romantic comedy classic The Wedding Singer which was transformed into a hit stage musical which debuted on Broadway in 2006.
