Hit sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will be made available for the first time to UK and Ireland Netflix users from 26 June 2020.
First released in cinemas in 2018, a decade after the first film hit the big screen, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! tells two stories: the present-day reopening of Donna’s hotel by her daughter Sophie and the 1970s-set flashback to when the young Donna first arrived on the island.
Produced by the stage show’s creator Judy Craymer and Playtone’s Gary Goetzman, the most successful live musical film sequel of all time reunites original stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper, Amanda Seyfried and Christine Baranski. They are joined by newcomers Lily James, Andy Garcia and superstar Cher.
Following the formula of the first movie by mixing ABBA music and a glorious Greek sunshine, the sequel was directed by Ol Parker, the writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and its sequel The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Judy Craymer’s inventive stage musical re-working of the hits of Swedish supergroup ABBA originally opened in London at the Prince Edward Theatre in 1999, before moving into the Prince of Wales Theatre in 2004, and then reopening in its new London home, the Novello Theatre in 2012.
With music and lyrics by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.
