Actors, pop-stars and even a famously foxy puppet are helping London-based performing arts company Shapeshifter Productions bring a little joy to care home residents and those isolated in their own homes with weekly singalongs.
Run by the not-for-profit company since 2011, the singalong series known as The Smiling Sessions is spreading some much-needed joy to those among the hardest hit by the current crisis and the measures necessary beat the virus.
Over the next few weeks celebrities including Lucy Porter, KT Tunstall, Derek Riddell, La Voix, Rod Argent, Jay Aston, Cheryl Baker, Daniel O’Donnell, Nick Moran and Basil Brush will drop in (virtually) to join in the fun.
Originally aimed at offering ‘participatory, high-quality singing experiences for senior citizens in care homes in London’ the weekly Smiling Sessions aim to harness the power of music and singing to support the wellbeing and mental health of senior citizens by helping raise their spirits and showing they have not been forgotten during these difficult times.
Care home staff or elderly people isolated at home can join the free weekly singalongs by contacting smiling@shapeshifter-productions.com.
The team is also hoping to raise money to buy iPads, tablets etc to make the sessions more accessible for care home residents and isolated individuals, donations can be made HERE.
