The London cast of Mamma Mia! will mark the 40th anniversary of the release of the single version of the show’s title song with a celebratory charity show this Thursday (24 September).
Current leading ladies Dianne Pilkington and Gabriella Williams will join other cast members and a four-piece band to pay tribute to the music of ABBA’s Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad in Thank You For The Other Music, in the Delfont Room at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
Staged in aid of The Make A Difference Trust, the special cabaret will allow the Mamma Mia! cast the chance to take a break from singing the ABBA songs they usually sing in the West End to tackle some of the other pieces from the impressive catalogue associated with the enduringly popular Swedish pop group.
The 90-minute show will feature ABBA hits not featured in the award-winning musical, along with songs from Andersson and Ulvaeus’ other musicals (Chess, Kristina) and individual band members’ solo projects. Cast members will perform 18 songs in total, and the singers will be accompanied by a band (including two of the original Mamma Mia! band) under the musical direction of Marcus Savage.
The event coincides with both the 4oth anniversary of the single release of ‘Mamma Mia’ and the 39th anniversary of the release of another chart-topping ABBA hit, ‘Dancing Queen’.
The internationally successful musical Mamma Mia! is currently taking bookings at London’s Novello Theatre until 23 April 2016 when it will chalk up its 18th year in the West End.
