ABBA-inspired Mamma Mia! celebrated its 23rd birthday recently and at the same time announced a new West End booking period, taking the hit show up to 5 March 2023.
Since premiering in London in 1999, the feelgood musical has captured the hearts of millions around the globe and continues to do so. On a special evening celebrating this birthday it was great to see young members of the audience loving the show as well as deeply devoted Mamma Mia! fans.
Mazz Murray captures all of the motherly and funny elements of Donna, enchanting the audience from start to finish. Her likeable character, partnered with powerful vocals, demonstrates just why she is perfect for the role.
Donna’s friends, Tanya (Josie Benson) and Rosie (Gemma Goggin), bring a sense of humour to the proceedings. The trio shows what friendship really means and the long-awaited performance of ‘Super Trouper’ from ‘Donna & the Dynamos’ is iconic. Benson’s hilarious rendition of ‘Does Your Mother Know’ is raunchy as we see her show Pepper (Alexandros Beshonges) exactly what he is missing out on. Hilarious and classic moments from this show will never grow old.
Sophie (Emma Mullen) and Sky (Jack Danson) are wonderfully romantic throughout and the mother-daughter relationship between Mullen and Murray is depicted beautifully.
This show is the perfect feelgood tonic, boosted by the opportunity to dance and sing at a finale which in addition to the show itself is brilliantly choreographed.
