London’s Shaw Theatre will host the world premiere of a major new musical about Italian explorer Marco Polo this summer.
Marco Polo An Untold Love Story will open at the Euston Road venue on 5 August for a limited one-month season.
With words and music by classically trained singer actor and producer Rogelio Saldo Chua, the musical story of the 13th century Venetian’s romance with Princess Kogajin, the daughter of Mongol Emperor Kublai Khan, features 20 original songs.
Previews of the show were staged in Manila and Paris last year ahead of this summer’s London premiere run of 41 performances presented by Artists Theatre Company (UK).
The production will feature an international cast of 30 that includes Filipino American singer Stephanie Reese (Tuptim in the West End revival of The King and I) re-creating the role of Princess Kogajin she played in last year’s preview shows. Further casting has yet to be announced.
