Further cast and creative team members have been revealed for the first stage adaptation of the 2010 movie musical Burlesque as rehearsals begin ahead of the production’s debut at the Manchester Opera House this summer.
As previously announced Jess Folley (The Voice Kids, X Factor – The Band) will star as Ali Rose, alongside Todrick Hall (Chicago The Musical, Phoenix Theatre) as Sean, Olivier Award-winning George Maguire (Sunny Afternoon, Hampstead Theatre/Harold Pinter Theatre) as Vince and It’s a Sin star Michael Mather (Soho Cinders, Charing Cross Theatre) as Jackson with Lucy Campbell (on stage swing), Lewis Easter (ensemble), Yasmin Harrison (Brenda/ensemble/dance captain/second Georgie), Billie-Kay (Sophia/ensemble), Hollie-Ann Lowe (summer/ensemble/2nd cover Nikki), Alessia McDermott (Sally/ensemble/first cover Nikki), Amber Pierson (offstage swing), Jess Qualter (Daphne/ensemble), Ope Sowande (Trey/ensemble), B Terry (Georgie/ensemble) and Lily Wang (Fifi/ensemble).
Latest additions to the cast include Nina Ann Nelson, actor and member of the American pop band Citizen Queen as Nikki and the alternate Ali Rose, Joe Atkinson as offstage wing/assistant dance captain, Jade Albertsen as ensemble, Callum Aylott as onstage swing, Evonnee Bentley-Holder as ensemble, Elly Jay offstage swing/first cover Tess/first cover Georgie), Stefan Lagoulis (ensemble/second cover Jackson and Sean), Callum MacDonald (ensemble/first cover Vince), Tom Mussell (ensemble/first cover Jackson), Ian Oswald (ensemble/first cover Sean) and Tom Scanlon (ensemble).
Burlesque The Musical features a book by the backstage movie’s director and original writer Steven Antin with additional material by Kate Wetherhead. The musical also features music and lyrics by pop superstars Christina Aguilera and Sia, multi-award-winning songwriter Diane Warren, and Jess Folley.
After playing its sold-out season in Manchester from 13-29 June, the musical will play Glasgow Theatre Royal from 11-28 September before playing an encore season in Manchester from 3 October until 2 November ahead of a West End transfer.
Directed and choreographed by Nick Winston, the creative team for the production will include set designer Soutra Gilmour, musical arranger and orchestrator Tom Curran, costume designer Ryan Dawson Laight, musical supervisor Phil Bateman, video designer Nina Dunn, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer Ben Harrison, hair and wigs designer Carole Hancock, make-up designer Dominic Skinner, associate make-up designer Dean Rudd, illusion designer Ben Hart, casting director Harry Blumenau, musical director Chris Poon, assistant musical director Caitlin Morgan, creative co-producer/associate choreographer Robin Antin, associate director/choreographer Ryan-Lee Seager, associate choreographer Libby Watts, casting associate Sarah-Jane Price, assistant choreographer Tommy Franzen, associate costume designer Jennifer Gregory, associate music orchestrator and arranger Matthew Jackson, associate lighting designer Dale Driscoll, associate sound designer Chris Reid, associate video designer Tyler Forward, associate wigs designer Sarah-Lou Packham, costume supervisor Laura Rushton and props supervisor Lily Mollgaard, with additional material (book) by Kate Wetherhead.
The dramaturg and associate writer is Vikki Stone and the script assistants are Monique Eleanor and Anoushka Lucas, alongside Racky Plews as creative producer, orchestra manager David Gallagher and production manager Lloyd Thomas.
Featuring a star-studded cast led by Cher, Christina Aguilera, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming and Peter Gallagher, the original film featured the Golden Globe Award-winning Diane Warren-penned song ‘You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me’ performed by Cher.
