The West End run of the hit new British musical Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) has been extended for a further seven weeks, with tickets now on sale for performances at the Criterion Theatre until 31 August 2024.
After debuting at the Kiln Theatre in north London in November 2023, the production followed its sold-out, extended run by transferring to the Criterion on 4 April.
The romantic comedy which earned its writers, Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, the 2018 Stiles + Drewe Mentorship Award, tells the story of Brit Dougal and New Yorker Robin who meet when Dougal flies to New York for his estranged father’s wedding to Robin’s sister.
Dujonna Gift (Hamilton, Victoria Palace, Dear Evan Hansen, Noel Coward Theatre) stars as Robin opposite Olivier Award-winner Sam Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen, Noel Coward Theatre, Once On This Island, Southwark Playhouse) as Dougal.
Originally titled The Season, the musical won the 2020 Stage Debut Best Composer/Lyricist award and played to critical acclaim at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate and Ipswich’s New Wolsey Theatre in late 2019
The director of the original production, Tim Jackson directs and choreographs the re-worked and renamed musical. The creative team for the production also includes designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer Tony Gayle, orchestrator Lux Pyramid, casting director Julia Horan and associate director Claira Vaughan.
Songwriters for their pop band, I Said Yes, Barne and Buchan’s second musical Catastrophe Bay was performed at the Bristol Old Vic last year. The Criterion run marks the writers’ West End debut.
