Over 30 of the UK’s leading musical theatre artists are lined up to feature in Reunited, a series of filmed concerts premiering on theatre platform Thespie.
Following on from last month’s successful The Reunion show featuring seven Queens from the original West End run of Six, the Reunited series of four concerts will be filmed in Covid-secure London venues and streamed each week in the run-up to Christmas.
Developed by Aimie Atkinson (Six, Pretty Woman) working with the individual artists, each concert will feature ensemble performances of musical theatre favourites, pop hits and seasonal songs along with interview footage.
Unveiling details of the series Thespie creative producer Atkinson said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing you our first shows – high-energy, joyful concerts with great production values and astonishing vocal performances. I am so in awe of the level of talent working with us to make these December shows incredibly special. You are in for a treat.”
The series will launch on 3 December with the premiere of Unlimited: The Songs of Stephen Schwartz – a celebration of the work of the composer whose credits include Wicked, Godspell and The Prince of Egypt.
With Schwartz also due to make an appearance in the programme, the line-up of nine artists – Nikki Bentley, Sophie Evans, Alice Fearn, Alexia Khadime, Melanie La Barrie, Carl Man, Dianne Pilkington, Liam Tamne, Oliver Tompsett – have all starred in Wicked during its first 14 years in London. Khadime and Tamne also feature in the launch cast of The Prince of Egypt. Further details of the concert are to be announced.
Five stars of hit show & Juliet – Jordan Luke Gage, Tim Mahendran, Grace Mouat, Oliver Tompsett and 2020 Olivier Award Winner Cassidy Janson – will feature in Oops!…I Streamed It Again… Premiering on 10 December the concert will feature performances of classic pop, rock and musical theatre songs.
The Six Queens Atkinson, Alexia McIntosh, Grace Mouat, Jarneia Richard-Noel, Maiya Quansah-Breed, Millie O’Connell and Natalie Paris who featured in The Reunion will return for Girl Power (a celebration of the songs of girl bands through the decades) on 17 December.
Featuring more than three dozen artists, the fourth instalment in the series on 21 December will be a love letter to the tradition of sharing the magic of live theatre with loved ones at Christmas. All I Want For Christmas Is Theatre will feature a programme of classic Christmas songs of all styles. Performers from the previous three concerts will feature alongside other artists with details to be announced in the coming weeks.
Commenting on the series, Thespie founder Tyler Stoops said: “Watching our first concert, The Reunion, revived my spirits, and hundreds of viewers told us how meaningful it was, how inspired they were, and how much fun they had. So I’m thrilled we can deliver four more concerts for audiences at home around the world, just in time for Christmas. I think all of us are ready for some joy and excitement.”
The livestream will be available in over 100 countries. Streaming tickets for a single concert cost £12.50 ($15 US) if booked before 30 November (10 other currencies are available). Purchasers of All I Want For Christmas Is Theatre will have seven days to watch with their households. An Extended-Access bundle will also be available.
Thespie launched in May as a platform to keep people connected to theatre and the arts. The platform now offers more than digital streaming listings along with audio, ebooks and educational resources including nearly 400 productions to stream free of charge.
Thespie’s first original production, The Reunion, was one of the best-selling paid theatre streaming events in the UK, selling tickets to 3,600 households across 65 countries, and employed 35 live entertainment workers who received over £30k in income from the event.
