The world premiere of the brand new family musical Where’s Peter Rabbit? opens in the Old Laundry Theatre in the heart of the Lake District on Monday 27 June 2016 as part of events celebrating two major anniversaries on 28 July: the 25th anniversary of The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter.
The cast will perform with some of Beatrix Potter’s best-loved animal characters: Peter Rabbit, Jeremy Fisher, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Jemima Puddle-Duck and all their hedgerow and farmyard animal friends. The musical developed faithfully from the little books is composed by Steve Edis (The Silver Sword, The Invisible Man, RNT, RSC), with a classical set design by Roger Glossop including stunning projections.
The ten-week run of Where’s Peter Rabbit? (Monday 27 June to Sunday 4 September) will play three shows a day throughout the summer. And the theatrical experience continues in the Attraction with Character breakfast, lunch and tea parties which can be enjoyed before or after the live family show. The Where’s Peter Rabbit? musical adventure aims to capture Potter’s poetry, freshness and humour, while staying true to her illustrations.
The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction has become an integral part of The Lakes over the last 25 years. The brainchild of the husband and wife team, theatre set designer Roger Glossop and Charlotte Scott, have lovingly grown and expanded the Attraction. It now includes The Old Laundry Theatre and the Tea Room.
Roger Glossop says: “Beatrix Potter has dominated our lives for the last 25 years (in a good way!) so it is fantastic to have a double celebration for our 25th and her 150 years throughout 2016. From the day we opened the door 25 years ago, Beatrix Potter has taken us on an exhilarating journey – exhibition, garden, shop, restaurant, online, theatre and ongoing – we couldn’t have aligned our creative and business life with a more original, entrepreneurial and visionary woman.”
Where’s Peter Rabbit? is devised by Roger Glossop based on the original tales by Beatrix Potter. The creative team includes: director/choreographer Sheila Carter, composer Steve Edis, set designer Roger Glossop, lighting designer Jason Taylor, projection designer Tim Reid, sound designer Sulley Glossop Sound and costume designer Caroline Hughes.
