The Sam Ryder-led new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar will follow its two London seasons by embarking on a major UK tour early next year.
Launching at the Palace Theatre Manchester from 11 to 27 February 2027, the tour will visit the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Edinburgh Playhouse, New Theatre Oxford, Norwich Theatre Royal, Southend Cliffs Pavilion, Blackpool Winter Gardens, Birmingham Hippodrome, Belfast Grand Opera House, Bradford Alhambra, Nottingham Theatre Royal, Woking Theatre, Milton Keynes Theatre, Plymouth Theatre Royal, Glasgow King’s Theatre, Southampton Mayflower Theatre, Sunderland Empire, Liverpool Empire, His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, Hull New Theatre and Bristol Hippodrome.
Announcing the tour, producer Michael Harrison said: “We are absolutely delighted that Jesus Christ Superstar will embark on a major UK tour following the phenomenal response to this extraordinary new production. The tremendous buzz generated by the first performance at the London Palladium underlines just how special this iconic musical remains, and we are thrilled that audiences across the country will now have the opportunity to experience Tim Sheader’s visionary staging, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary score and Sam Ryder’s electrifying performance.
“This is fantastic news for touring theatre and audiences throughout the UK, ensuring that this remarkable production can be enjoyed by many more people following our seasons at the London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane.”

Due to play the London Palladium until 5 September, the production which marks singer/songwriter Ryder’s West End debut will play a limited 12-week season at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027.
Presented by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, by arrangement with LW Entertainment, the acclaimed Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production features direction by Tim Sheader, choreography by Drew McOnie, design by Tom Scutt, music supervision by Tom Deering, lighting design by Lee Curran and sound design by Adam Fisher. The fight director is Kate Waters and the casting director is David Grindrod for Grindrod Burton Casting.
Winner of the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical, the production sold out consecutive runs at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2016 and 2017 before playing a West End transfer season at the Barbican in 2019. The production also embarked on an extensive North American tour in 2019 before returning to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in a concert version during the summer of 2020. The production also toured the UK in 2023 and 2024.
