New King to lead ten new cast members into London’s Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton will face a new King George from early December when Avenue Q’s Jon Robyns will take over from Olivier Award winner Michael Jibson in the smash hit London version of Hamilton.

Robyns, who was last seen on stage in the UK tour of The Wedding Singer, is one of ten new cast members who will join the multi-award-winning show as it enters its second year at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Currently booking until Saturday 30 March 2019, the show’s new cast members joining from 3 December include: Allyson Ava-Brown (Les Misérables) as Angelica Schuyler, and Dom Hartley-Harris (Bat Out Of Hell) as George Washington. They will be joined by Robson Broad, Lisa Darnell, Joe Griffiths-Brown, Sinead Long, Emile Ruddock and Ellena Vincent.

The newcomers will join current cast members: Jamael Westman who will continue in the central role of Alexander Hamilton alongside Tarinn Callender (Hercules Mulligan/James Madison), Rachelle Ann Go (Eliza Hamilton), Jason Pennycooke (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson) and Cleve September as (John Laurens/Philip Hamilton).

From 3 December, original London cast members Sifiso Mazibuko and Courtney-Mae Briggs will step into the roles of Aaron Burr and Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds respectively. Also continuing in the show are Jade Albertsen, Curtis Angus, Stephenson Ardern-Sodje, Johnny Bishop, Jack Butterworth, Kelly Downing, Leslie Garcia Bowman, Gregory Haney, Leah Hill, Barney Hudson, Waylon Jacobs, Aaron Lee Lambert, Phoebe Liberty, Sharon Rose, Alexzandra Sarmiento and Lindsey Tierney.

The role of Alexander Hamilton will be played by Ash Hunter between 17 December 2018 and 12 January 2019, and at certain performances by Karl Queensborough.

Earmarked by Cameron Mackintosh as the perfect production to launch his multi-million-pound refurbishment of the Victoria Palace Theatre Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hip-hop flavoured show was one of 2017’s most eagerly anticipated West End premieres.

Opening just before Christmas on 21 December 2017 to predictably rave reviews, the production was previously booking until December this year.

Heavily tipped from its Broadway opening night as a leading awards winner, Hamilton banked the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album before adding a stunning 11 Tony awards including the award for Best Musical to its trophy cabinet.

Still playing to sell-out crowds on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre since August last year, Miranda’s tale of one of America’s founding fathers debuted Off-Broadway in February 2015 where it secured the piece’s first gong, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical.

The show which has book, music and lyrics by Miranda, is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, and is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton features scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Nevin Steinberg and hair and wig design by Charles G. Lapointe.

Hamilton is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman, The Public Theater and Cameron Mackintosh.
