Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s magical musical Into The Woods will be among the first productions to grace the stage of the distinctive new Thorington Theatre in the heart of Suffolk this summer.
Constructed on a zero-carbon footprint model using locally sourced timber in a woodland setting, the 350-seat outdoor theatre space which has been built on the site of a Second World War bomb crater has been created to provide performance space for a wide range of styles from local school productions to music shows and theatre productions.
Created by events producer Silas Rayner on land owned by Mark and Lyndy O’Hara, the project has used the natural amphitheatre shape left by the bomb to shape the theatre and audience space. Nestled in woodland with easy access off the A12 and a field for parking plus wheelchair access, the purpose-built outdoor theatre boasts a ticket hut and wooden bar serving local wines, beers and juices.
Tickets will go on sale next month for a range of performances including A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the Cut Arts Centre’s in-house theatre company Mini Mouth Theatre on 17 and 18 June 2021 followed by two performances of Rough Cast Theatre Company’s version of The Tempest on 26 June. There will be two performances of UpShoot Theatre Company’s Into The Woods on 28 August.
