NYMT announces three-week London season

The National Youth Music Theatre a three-week summer residency at The Other Palace will include a new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ben Elton’s award winning Beautiful Game. Running from 15-18 August 2018, the musical set during ‘The Troubles’ in Belfast in 1969 will feature Jasper Britton, the NYMT alumnus who spoke the first lines in the first production (The Ballad Salomon Pavey) in 1976, the year Jeremy James Taylor established the company Lloyd Webber has dubbed “the best youth music theatre in the world”.

A re-imagining of the much-loved Frances Hodgson Burnett’s A Little Princess by Carl Miller and Marc Folan will open The Other Palace season. Running from 9-11 August, the show will combine classical Indian music and dance with a rich musical theatre score to offer a new vision of Burnett’s class tale.

The final week will feature this year’s new commission, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Helen Watts and Eamonn O’Dwyer. Based on Washington Irving’s classic short story of the headless horseman and Ichabod Crane will play the London venue from 22-25 August.

In addition to the new productions, NYMT continues to provide opportunities for young people to develop existing strengths and learn new skills through regular half-term workshops and residential holiday courses.

The summer programme also includes a further developmental workshop of a new musical, Growl, by Timothy Knapman and Laurence Mark Wythe, with an invitation-only performance at Sevenoaks School on 2 August.
