Original London cast recording of The Great British Bake Off musical to be released

Sony Music Masterworks will release the ‘Original London Cast Recording of The Great British Bake Off the Musical’ on 28 April 2023 via Masterworks Broadway.

The album announcement was accompanied by the release of the first single ‘Obviously’ recorded by Grace Mouat. Two more singles – ‘Somewhere In The Dough’ and the ballad ‘My Dad’ performed by Maisy Mein and Damian Humbley – will be released at a later date.

Pippa [Cleary] and Jake [Brunger] have an exceptional ability to write captivating new musicals, and this record is jam-packed full of hits for listeners to enjoy at home. There is so much in the mix.”

The album announcement comes just a few weeks before the hit musical makes its West End at the Noël Coward Theatre. Following on from the show’s world premiere run in Cheltenham last summer, the musical inspired by the much-loved TV series will be cooking up a storm in the West End from 25 February until 13 May 2023.

As previously announced, quadruple Olivier nominee Hadyn Gwynne will play sharp-tongued judge Pam Lee alongside West End and Broadway star John Owen-Jones as silver-fox judge Phil Hollinghurst.

Gwynne (Anything Goes, Billy Elliot The Musical) is one of a number of newcomers to join the original Cheltenham Everyman Theatre production for the West End transfer. New additions also include former Pop Idol contestant turned musical theatre favourite Zoe Birkett (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, The Bodyguard) as co-presenter Kim, rising star Grace Mouat (Six, Cinderella, Legally Blonde) as contestant Izzy and understudies Georgie Westall (A Christmas Carol, The Rocky Horror Show), Stuart Hickey (Come From Away, Grandpa’s Great Escape) and Jamil Abbasi (West End debut). The role of Lily will be shared by Aanya Shah, Amelie Rouse and Maisy Mein.

Jones (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables) will lead the returning cast alongside fellow returnee including Scott Paige (The Addams Family, Nativity!), Claire Moore (Mary Poppins, The Girls), Catriana Sanderson (Evita, We Will Rock You), Charlotte Wakefield (The Boy In A Dress, Crazy For You), Damian Humbley (Local Hero, Merrily We Roll Along), Jay Saighal (Hedda Gabler, Romeo and Juliet), Michael Cahill (Les Misérables, Starlight Express), Louis Gaudencio (Aladdin, Our Teacher’s a Troll) and Annette Yeo (Love Never Dies, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia!). Aharon Rayner and Gabriella Stylianou will make their West End debut in the production.

Presented by Mark Goucher Productions Ltd and endorsed and created in association with executive producer and creative director Richard McKerrow and the television show’s producers Love Productions, the musical features an original score by multi-award-winning writers Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾ – The Musical). The musical which was co-created by Anna Beattie and McKerrow is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Half A Sixpence, Noël Coward Theatre).

The original creative team also includes: choreographer Georgina Lamb, set, costume and cake designer Alice Power, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designer Ben Harrison, orchestrations Tom Curran, musical supervisor Mark Collins, assistant musical director Chris Poon and casting director Jim Arnold.
