Peter Andre to join Curve’s Grease tour

Pop star and television personality Peter Andre will play Teen Angel for a number of dates when Curve’s hit version of Grease hits the road in 2019.

The first new production of the much-loved musical in 25 years will follow its sold- out run in Leicester with tour dates from mid-June 2019.

Directed by Curve’s artistic director Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the tour will open at Leeds Grand Theatre from 19 June 2019. Running until 20 July, the show will become the venue’s longest-running visiting production.

The tour will then play Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion (23-27 July), Sunderland Empire (30 July-3 August), Birmingham Hippodrome (13-24 August) and the King’s Theatre, Glasgow (27-31 August). The production will return to Curve, Leicester from 3-14 September, followed by Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin (17-28 September), New Theatre, Oxford (1-5 October) and Churchill Theatre, Bromley (8-12 October).

Andre will appear at certain performances in Leeds, Southend, Sunderland, Birmingham, Leicester, Dublin, Oxford and Bromley.

Announcing the tour, Curve’s chief executive Chris Stafford and artistic director Foster said “We are looking forward to working alongside Jim Jacobs, Colin Ingram and Arlene Philips on the return of our critically acclaimed, Made at Curve production of Grease.

“Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s musical is an electrifying celebration of the birth of cool and teenage culture. It provides a gripping snapshot of a country on the cusp of social change, all set to one of the greatest rock‘n’roll scores ever written. Curve audiences love Grease and we are immensely proud to be sharing our production with audiences across the UK.”

Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, with additional songs by John Farrar, the story of Sandy, Danny and Rydell High made its debut on stage in Chicago in 1971 before arriving on Broadway in 1972 and first appearing in the West End a year later.

The 1978 film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John is the fourth highest-grossing live-action musical of all time and has just celebrated its 40th anniversary. The musical features songs, including ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’ and ‘You’re The One That I Want’.

The Made in Curve production features designs by Colin Richmond with orchestrations and musical supervision by Sarah Travis, lighting design by Guy Hoare and sound design by Sebastian Frost.
