Olivier award winners Rebecca Trehearn (Show Boat) and Adam J Bernard (Dreamgirls) and Wicked’s Alexia Khadime are the latest star names to be added to the cast of the UK premiere production of Andrew Lippa’s musical version of Francis Hodgson Burnett’s much-loved novel A Little Princess.
Joining the previously announced Sherlock star Amanda Abbington and Sunset Boulevard’s Danny Mac who will play the roles of Miss Minchin and Captain Crewe respectively, Trehearn will play Miss Amelia, with Bernard cast as Pasko and Khadime as Aljana in the semi-staged concert performance of the show at the Southbank Centre on Bank Holiday Monday 28 May.
The ensemble will include Elias Hendricks, Joanna Goodwin, Landi Oshinowo, Mark Dugdale and Rosanna Hyland and students from Arts Educational.
Following on from a major talent search aimed at finding the production’s ten child stars which attracted thousands of hopefuls, the successful girls are: Jasmine Sakyiama (in the title role of Sara Crewe), Jasmine Nituan (Becky), with Madeline Banbury, Delilah Bennett-Cardy, Sophie Beswick, Olivia Cowley, Tia Figgett, Andie Jordan, Agatha Meehan, Natasha Raphael and Kate Woodman.
Written by Tony-nominated composer Lippa (The Addams Family, Big Fish) who will fly in from the US to conduct the concert performance, the musical A Little Princess premiered in California in 2004.
The London performance, which will be directed by multi award-winning choreographer and director Arlene Phillips, will feature abridged narration by Brian Crawley, the writer of the book and the show’s lyricist.
Phillips heads a creative team that includes: associate director Emily Kempson, associate musical staging/assistant director Richard Roe, musical supervisor Alan Williams, musical director Alan Berry, costume/projection designer PJ McEvoy, lighting designer Nic Farman, and children’s resident Joanna Goodwin with casting by Keston & Keston and general management by ebp.
