Full cast for The Rink at Southwark Playhouse

Full casting has been announced for the first London revival of Kander and Ebb’s The Rink in 20 years which is due to open at the Southwark Playhouse next month.

Stewart Clarke, Ross Dawes, Michael Lin, Elander Moore, Ben Redfern and Jason Winter will play the roles Dino, Lino, Lucky, Benny, Lenny and Tony respectively.

They will join the previously announced Caroline O’Connor (Anastasia, Chicago on Broadway) as Anna and Gemma Sutton (Strictly Ballroom, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Princess of Wales Theatre, Toronto) as her estranged daughter Angel.

The full cast announcement follows on from O’Connor’s recent meeting with the show’s original Anna, stage and screen legend Chita Rivera. The star of the original Broadway and West End productions of West Side Story, Rivera won both the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for her performance in the first Broadway production of The Rink in 1984.

O’Connor previously understudied the role Sutton will now play in 1988 in the first West End production of the show which starred Josephine Blake as Anna and Diane Langton as Angel.

Directed by Adam Lenson, the new production is set to play a limited season at the Playhouse from 25 May until 23 June 2018. Fabian Aloise will choreograph, with musical direction by Joe Bunker, set design by Bec Chippendale, costume design by Libby Todd, lighting design by Matt Daw, sound design by Mike Thacker and casting by Jacob Sparrow.

The Rink is produced by Jack Maple and Brian Zeilinger, with associate producers Corey and Jessica Brunish, Stuart Burrows and Jonny Clines and Daniel G. Peterson.

The story of an Italian housewife who runs a failing roller-skating business on the East Coast of the US and her estranged daughter, The Rink has a book by Tony Award-winning Terrence McNally (Ragtime, Kiss of the Spider Woman) and music by the prolific song writing partnership of composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb.
