Michael Harrison and David Ian have announced the new dates for the world premiere of My Best Friend’s Wedding The Musical.
Featuring former X Factor winner turned musical theatre leading lady Alexandra Burke (The Bodyguard, Chicago, Sister Act) as meddling food critic Julianne Potter, the show will now open at the Manchester Palace Theatre on 20 September 2021 ahead of a UK and Ireland tour.
Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, My Best Friend’s Wedding The Musical has a book by the original screenwriter Ronald Bass and Jonathan Harvey and features the timeless songs of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
The production will play the Palace Theatre from 20-25 September, before heading out on the road to visit: Sunderland Empire (28 September-2 October), Her Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (12-16 October), Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (19-23 October), New Wimbledon Theatre (25-30 October), Plymouth Theatre Royal (1-6 November), Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield (9-13 November), Regent Theatre, Stoke on Trent (15-20 November), Nottingham Theatre Royal (22-27 November) and Bradford Alhambra (29 November-4 December).
The 2022 leg of the tour will launch at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend (4-8 January), Milton Keynes Theatre (11-15 January), Dartford Orchard Theatre (17-22 January), Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (24-29 January), Glasgow King’s Theatre (31 January-5 February), The Hawth, Crawley (15-19 February), New Theatre, Oxford (28 February-5 March), Liverpool Empire (7-12 March), Leicester Curve (14-19 March), Edinburgh Playhouse (21-26 March),Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (12-16 April), New Victoria Theatre, Woking (25-30 April), Bristol Hippodrome (2-7 May) and Bristol Hippodrome (2-7 May). Further fates will be announced soon.
Based on the hit 1990s movie that starred Julia Roberts and featured a scene-stealing performance from Rupert Everett, the musical was due to debut at the Plymouth Theatre Royal on 16 September this year.
