Former Collabro singer Richard Hadfield has been entertaining home-bound fans during lockdown with the release of his ‘Song A Day Keeps Corona Away’ videos every day on Instagram and YouTube.
After recovering from his own brush with the deadly virus, the singer has posted nearly 80 daily videos and attracted over 200,000 views with favourite songs including the duet ‘The Confrontation’ from Les Misérables featuring Hadfield as both Javert and Valjean. Another fan favourite duet ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’ from Tarzan features Hadfield and his brother James.
Commenting on the project, the London-based singer said: “I started recording my videos for ‘Song A Day Keeps Corona Away’ on 23 March, after fully recovering from Coronavirus myself. I was keen to battle the pandemic of loneliness and wanted to do something proactive which would both entertain people at home and allow me to bridge the gap in these isolated times.
“I’m really proud of the reach of the project, and the feedback of thousands of people who have enjoyed the series all over the world. Hopefully, I’ll be able to able to perform to many of them in person before long.”
Initially filmed by Hadfield on a phone camera, the singer started a Crowdfunder campaign to raise £2,000 to help him upgrade his home studio. Within 12 hours, Hadfield’s supporters had passed his original goal and he set a revised goal of £10,000 which would help finance a tour once venues re-open. Hadfield is also hopping to donate 50% of his tour profits to charities Music Minds Matter and Age UK. The fundraising campaign will close on 1 July 2020.
Hadfield first found fame as a member of musical theatre vocal group Collabro, the winners of season eight of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014. After leaving the group in 2016, Hadfield launched a successful solo career.
