Glam rock jukebox musical Rock Of Ages will be back on tour across the UK from mid-August 2021.
Presented by Dan Looney, Adam Paulden, Jason Haigh-Ellery and Richard Klin for DLAP Entertainment, the 2021/2022 tour will now open at The Alexandra in Birmingham on 19 August.
With further dates and star casting to be announced soon, the tour will follow its launch performances in Birmingham by visiting the Sunderland Empire (24-28 August), Glasgow King’s Theatre (31 August-4 September), Liverpool Empire (14-18 September), New Wimbledon Theatre (21-25 September), Milton Keynes Theatre (28 September-2 October), Manchester Opera House (5-9 October), Exeter Northcott Theatre (19-23 October), Dartford Orchard Theatre (25-31 October), Stoke on Trent Regent Theatre (2-6 November), Cheltenham Everyman Theatre (8-13 November), Beck Theatre Hayes (16-20 November), Darlington Hippodrome (23-27 November), Grimsby Auditorium (30 November-4 December), Poole Lighthouse (18-22 January 2022), New Victoria Theatre Woking (25-29 January), Llandudno Venue Cymru (22-26 February 2022), New Brighton Floral Pavilion (12-16 April 2022), Hull New Theatre (19-23 April 2022), Hawth Theatre, Crawley (3-7 May 2022), Edinburgh Playhouse (10-14 May 2022), Cardiff New Theatre (17-22 August 2022) and Portsmouth King’s Theatre (14-18 June 2022).
The production is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston with design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Ben Harrison and musical supervision by Barney Ashworth.
Celebrating the classic soft rock of the 1980s, the musical which features a book by Chris D’Arienzo and orchestrations and arrangements by Ethan Popp. The original Broadway production opened in 2009 and was the 29th longest-running musical in Broadway history when it closed in 2015. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2009 including Best Musical and Best Actor for the original leading man, former American Idol favourite Constantine Maroulis.
The show made its West End debut in 2011, the year before the release of the film version starring Tom Cruise, and three years before the first UK tour. The sold-out second tour launched in Manchester in 2018 and ran until the summer of 2019 with Strictly pro dancer Kevin Clifton, former pop star Anthony Costa, ex Coronation Street favourite Kevin Kennedy and Six’s Jodie Steele among the touring cast.
