Rosalie Craig and Hadley Fraser to star in live-stream musical Before After

Real-life husband and wife Rosalie Craig and Hadley Fraser will star in a staged reading of new musical Before After at the Southwark Playhouse.

Evening Standard Award-winner Craig (Company, Gielgud Theatre, City of Angels, Donmar Warehouse) and Fraser (Young Frankenstein, Garrick Theatre, Saint Joan, City of Angels, The Vote, Coriolanus – all Donmar Warehouse) will take to the stage in the Little without a live audience for three performances on 25 and 26 September which will be live-streamed to ticket holders.

With music and lyrics by Stuart Matthew Price and a book and additional lyrics by Timothy Knapman, Before After will be directed by Matthew Rankcom with musical direction by Charles Ingles and associate direction by Samantha Dye.

Commenting on the production Rankcom said: “There is such uncertainty for our industry at the moment, so we’re trying to explore how theatre can adapt to become more accessible and viable in the current climate. By streaming this rehearsed reading in real time, we hope to re-capture some of the magic of live theatre and allow our actors and their audience to forge a new kind of connection.”

Tickets will cost £10 when booked in advance or £15 if booked during the week of the show (from 21 September). There will be no recordings of the performance available beyond the three 90-minute live streams (with no interval) which will start at 7pm on 25 September and at 2pm and 7pm on 26 September. The performances will not be available on catch-up or on the Southwark Playhouse streaming platform.

Before After was workshopped at the St James Theatre in 2014 with Fraser also starring opposite Caroline Sheen. A studio cast recording was released by SimG Productions in 2016.
