West End stars, cabaret favourites and a celebration of Eurovision feature among the attractions in the second season of socially distanced entertainment in the new Cabaret Lounge at London’s Above The Stag Theatre.
Featuring an eclectic mix of cabaret, musical theatre, poetry, comedy and drag assembled by programmer radio presenter and cabaret star Tim McArthur, the new season will launch on 19 May 2021.
The launch evening will offer a taste of the season with performances from stars including: Fascinating Aida’s Adèle Anderson, Dear Evan Hansen’s David Breeds, ‘jazzy genderbending’ Geordie Jimmy Lavender, cabaret star Paulus, musical theatre star Lizzie Bea (Hairspray), and the season’s opening show Eurovision, Your Decision!
Devised and directed by McArthur, the camp celebration of all things Eurovision features McArthur along with Sarah Dearlove, Nathan Kiley (aka Topsie Redfern) and Lucy Penrose with musical direction by Aaron Clingham. There will be four performances of Eurovision, Your Decision! (20, 21, 22 May) followed by a live screening of the Eurovision Song Contest Final from 7pm on 22 May.
The season will also include the return of former pop singer turned theatre star Duncan James (Legally Blonde, Savoy Theatre) who will reunite with McArthur for Duncan & Tim’s Big Camp Time for two shows on 6 June.
Soon-to-be-seen as Tracy Turnblad in the West End production of Hairspray, Bea takes centre stage in Lizzie Bea: My Musical Journey. The evening of show tunes on 28 May will feature special guests including Mark Anderson (School of Rock, The Grinning Man), Alfie Parker (Kinky Boots, School of Rock), Anna Stolli (Kinky Boots, Little Women) and Toyan Thomas-Browne (Beautiful, Kinky Boots).
The season also includes: Paulus’ musical tribute to Victoria Wood, Looking For Me Friend: The Music Of Victoria Wood (29 May); West End stars Emma Dears and Helen Sheals in hit show Judy and Liza (5 June); David Breeds: Out Of The Thunderdome, a lockdown-inspired show from the Dear Evan Hansen star (12 June) and an in-conversation with stage and screen star Harriet Thorpe (Wicked, Mamma Mia!).
Above The Stag Theatre recently opened a new outdoor terrace area in front of the theatre on the Albert Embankment. From 19 May the theatre’s indoor bar will also reopen for an at-table drinks’ service.
