Olivier Award nominee Charlotte Wakefield will star opposite former Spandau Ballet singer Ross William Wild in a special concert version of Gatsby A Musical which will be made available online next month.
Wakefield (Spring Awakening, The Sound of Music) will play Daisy Buchanan alongside Wild’s (Million Dollar Quartet, American Idiot) Jay Gatsby in the socially-distanced production which will be filmed in London’s Cadogan Hall and streamed online from 12-14 February 2021.
The new concert production will also star quadruple Olivier Award nominee Emma Williams (Mrs Henderson Presents, Zorro), Marc Antolin (Little Shop of Horrors, Romantics Anonymous), Blake Patrick Anderson (Rent, Be More Chill) and Chanice Alexander-Burnett (Motown the Musical, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical). The line-up also includes Lauren Chinery, Oliver Mawdsley, Tristan Pegg and Marc Rhys.
Adapted from F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic Jazz Age romantic tragedy, The Great Gatsby, Gatsby features a book by Linnie Reedman and music and lyrics by Joe Evans.
The production will be directed by Reedman who heads a creative team that includes musical director Henry Brennan, designer Justin Williams, lighting designer Dom Warwick and costume supervisor Belle Mundi.
Announcing the semi-staged concert production, Reedman said: “Gatsby has become, over the years, synonymous with glamour, glitz and parties. What a lot of people forget, however, is that the ‘Roaring Twenties’ came immediately after a World War. And a global pandemic. It was a period of upheaval and great change. I think the story of a crushed American dream, juxtaposed against individual hope and optimism is essentially pertinent today.”
Gatsby has previously been seen at London venues Crazy Coqs, the King’s Head, Riverside Studios, the Leicester Square Theatre and The Other Palace, and at the Theatre Royal Windsor.
