Showstoppers plan second Alternative Eurovision Song Contest online fundraiser

Olivier Award-winning improv specialists The Showstoppers will be joined by a number of special star guests for the second Alternative Eurovision Song Contest fundraiser on 15 May 2021.

The team which kept lockdown audiences entertained in 2020 will be aiming to build on last year’s glitter and fun-filled Eurovision-themed event which raised £7,500 for The Care Workers’ Charity by adding guest judges including actor Les Dennis, comedians Russell Kane and London Hughes, and cabaret favourite Le Gateau Chocolat and star performers including Six’s Grace Mouat, singer Jordan Gray and improv legend Mike McShane.

Featuring new songs parodying favourite Eurovision genres, expert commentary and interactive voting, all profits from the event will once again go to The Care Workers Charity with viewers asked to make a donation via The Showstopper PayPal before voting for their favourite.

Hosted by Showstoppers Pippa Evans and Andrew Pugsley, the livestream event will feature songs written and recorded by The Showstoppers and their guest stars in collaboration with the company’s musical directors, Duncan Walsh Atkins, Christopher Ash and Jordan Clarke.

The Showstoppers’ lockdown offerings for stuck-at-home audiences including the popular 24-Hour Song Challenges and Storytime episodes for children have attracted over 10,000 viewers to date.

Established in 2009, The Care Workers’ Charity was set up to support care workers across the UK. With care workers on the frontline during the pandemic the charity set up the Covid-19 Emergency Fund and recently also established a Mental Wellbeing and Health Support Programme.
