Southwark Playhouse announces encore screenings of new musicals Fiver, Before After and Stay Awake, Jake

The critically-acclaimed live-stream productions of new British musicals FIVER, Before After and Stay Awake, Jake have been made available for an extra two weeks in response to high public demand.

First seen as part of a mini-season of musical livestreams from The Little Theatre space at Southwark Playhouse late last year, the encore streaming of all three productions will run until 11 February 2021. All productions cost £10 each and are available on demand to watch within a 24-hour window from point of purchase.

Featuring the original cast from 2019’s first full production FIVER returned to London’s Southwark Playhouse for three live-streamed performances of a concert version of the show in November 2020.

Directed by the show’s co-creators, singer/songwriter Alex James Ellison and musical director Tom Lees, the returning cast for FIVER The Concert featured Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’s award-winning Luke Bayer; Aoife Clesham (Peter Pan international tour); Daniel Buckley (Eugenius!); Hiba Elchikhe (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie); and Alex James Ellison (The Secret Garden). Performed to an empty theatre, the concert features all the songs from the Southwark Playhouse production, an abridged script and an exclusive performance of a new song written by Ellison and Lees specifically for the concert version.

Originally seen in workshop form in 2017 at London’s Crazy Coqs in a production which also featured Buckley, FIVER takes the form of a series of musical vignettes following a five-pound note on its journey across London.

Before After was the Playhouse’s first livestream from The Little in September 2020. Starring Evening Standard Award-winner Rosalie Craig (Company, Gielgud Theatre, and City of Angels, Donmar Warehouse and Garrick Theatre) and Hadley Fraser (Young Frankenstein, Garrick Theatre, The Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary, Royal Albert Hall) and directed by Matthew Rankcom, the staged reading was viewed by over 3,000 people from 44 different countries across the world.

Stuart Matthew Price and Timothy Knapman’s Before After was workshopped at the St James Theatre in 2014 with Fraser also starring opposite Caroline Sheen. A studio cast recording was released by SimG Productions in 2016.

Starring Ahmed Hamed the new production of Tim Gilvin’s award-winning one-man one-act show Stay Awake, Jake was live-streamed from the Southwark Playhouse in December.

Featuring new songs, and new orchestrations for a four-piece band the new production was directed by Grace Taylor, with musical direction by Tamara Saringer, musical supervision by Nick Pinchbeck and orchestrations by Matthew Malone.

The story of one man’s late-night journey across England’s deserted motorways en route to a reunion with his girlfriend, Stay Awake, Jake won the prestigious S&S Award for best un-produced musical in 2014. In 2016, the innovative musical was crowned the winner of the VAULT Festival Origins Award for new writing.
