Home audiences across the world will get their chance to see the sold-out Southwark Playhouse production of The Last Five Years next month when a filmed performance is released on new platform stream.theatre.
Recorded using multiple cameras, the filmed performance of Jonathan O’Boyle’s hit actor-musician production will be streamed from 26-29 November 2020 (with a matinee showing on 28 November). Tickets cost £15 per person/household device.
The Last Five Years will be the first full production captured by stream.theatre since the August launch of the digital platform for theatre, art or performance-based video content.
Presented by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment in association with Edward Prophet and People Entertainment, The Last Five Years is due to end its extended run in the re-configured auditorium at The Large at Southwark Playhouse run on 14 November.
The production which stars Molly Lynch (Wasted, Southwark Playhouse) and Oli Higginson (Napoleon Blown Apart, Arcola Theatre) as Cathy and Jamie, features musical direction and orchestrations by George Dyer, with choreography by Sam Spencer-Lane, set and costume design by Lee Newby, lighting design by Jamie Platt and sound design by Adam Fisher.
The new version of Jason Robert Brown’s award-winning musical had been playing to packed houses at the South London venue when the curtain came down on the production due to the Covid-closedown on 16 March.
Written and composed by triple Tony Award-winner Brown (Parade, The Bridges of Madison County), The Last Five Years premiered in Chicago in 2001 and debuted Off-Broadway in 2002. The musical which was made into a film featuring the star of the Pitch Perfect movies, Anna Kendrick, premiered in London in 2016 in a production featuring Samantha Barks.
