The 10th anniversary of the Chichester Festival Theatre production of the musical version of Erich Segal weepie best-seller Love Story will be marked with a special concert in London in May.
Featuring original cast members Michael D. Xavier, Emma Williams and Peter Polycarpou, Love Story: 10th Anniversary Concert at Cadogan Hall on 17 May 2020 will be directed by Samuel Hopkins with musical direction by Andrew Linnie (the team behind the acclaimed 2016 Cadogan Hall concert of Howard Goodhall’s The Hired Man).
Presented by Ben Lockwood, Samuel Hopkins and Andrew Linnie, the concert will celebrate the premiere of the musical at the Chichester Festival Theatre ahead of a West End run at the Duchess Theatre in 2010.
Based on Segal’s 1970 novel, famously made into a film directed by Arthur Hiller, Love Story boasts music and additional lyrics by Goodhall and a book and lyrics by Stephen Clark. Since its UK debut the show has been performed in the USA, Russia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, South Korea, Italy and Germany. The musical has also been presented at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe.
Recently seen as Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard (ENO/Palace Theatre/Broadway), Xavier (Assassins, Menier Chocolate Factory, Into the Woods, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) will return to the role of Oliver Barrett IV alongside his original leading lady Emma Williams (Half a Sixpence, Noel Coward Theatre, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, London Palladium) as Jenny Cavilleri. Both actors were nominated for Olivier Awards for their performances in the show which was also nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Musical.
Polycarpou (Les Misérables, Palace Theatre, Sweeney Todd, Adelphi Theatre) completes the returning cast as Phil Cavilleri.
